How Celebrities become ‘Celebs’

I have noticed that being in a reality show has made a lot of people to become celebrities especially in the Western countries as well as here in Africa in countries like South Africa and Nigeria. First of all, I want to talk about Kim Kardashian because did not get famous through singing, acting  or dancing but she found a role of her life time in the fine art of playing herself in the reality television show.she is now considered the queen of reality tv.
What I have noticed about many celebrities that have become so famous and popular is that they did not have to become musicians or actresses but they became stars just by being themselves in front of a camera.  These reality tv shows such as The Kardashians, The Real house wives of Atlanta or Guliana and Bill have made the un-famous to become famous.
I have been following Giuliana and Bill and I found that Giuliana was just a presenter on E! but after she and her husband Bill started their reality show they became famous and much more popular than ever.

Zimbabwe also launched its first reality tv show called Zimbabwe ine stayira (Zimbabwe has got style) last year 2013 around August. It featured zim celebs such as Stunner, and Tinopona Katsande and 30 people from around Zimbabwe who were contestants. According to the producers of the reality tv show, Zimbabwe ine stayira was more like a big brother reality show and the winner was going to walk away with R200 000.
What really surprises me is that I don’t know what took place during the 13 weeks of the broadcasting of the show let alone the winner of the reality show. I didn’t see any priority being given to the show by the media the way other countries like South Africa give prominence to their reality shows. I don’t think we can ever have many celebrities in our country like other countries do.
The other way that has made people to become famous the exposure of sex tapes. Kim Kardashian’s 2007 sex tape with Ray J is what made her become noticeable in the media as well as the public. I think this has actually caused a lot of celebrities to produce sex tapes just for fame and publicity but it is not all the celebrities that have become popular because of their sex tapes but these sex tapes have also destroyed other people’s careers for example Tinopona Katsande.

I was reading an article by StephenKersey and she says, “You wouldn’t think that a radio dj in Zimbabwe can make world-wide news but that exactly what happened with Tinopona Katsande. In America she would just get more famous and celebrated for having her bedroom activities leaked to the public. But with her African nation where adult material is illegal, thus is no laughing matter.”
She ends up by saying, “ lets hope she gets her job back and nothing too terrible happens to her.”
